On this day, Lord, I welcome you into my heart.
I create a space within and acknowledge your presence at the core of my being.
As I go forth into this day
let me carry with me the joy of the resurrection.
May I embrace opportunities this day offers,
and venture into the unknown and into the new with a courageous heart.
In my coming and in my going, may I greet all as Christ.
Give me the vision to see the many ways Christ will be present to me.
Let me not pass him by, in stranger or in friend.
Let my words and actions today be ones directed to and inspired by Christ.
Lord, bless this day for me and for everyone,
May the God of new beginnings lead us forward.
May the God who abides within us be revealed in all who we meet this day.
May the God who walks with us, consoles and protects, soothe any concerns this day.
We offer this prayer through Christ our Lord
Amen
Return to School Based Learning
Three sleeps to go! After 11 long weeks the time has finally come for us to return to school based learning. All the plans and protocols are in place for this to be as safe as possible. You can’t miss the physical reminders about good hygiene and social distancing – they are everywhere, as are the bottles of hand sanitiser and packets and packets of alcohol wipes! The school has been scrubbed from top to bottom and is ready to welcome everyone back.
It will be very much like the first day of the school year as we reconnect with each other. The day will begin with Pastoral Care in period 1 to give everyone a chance to catch up and share their experiences of the 8 weeks we have been learning from home.
Our Year 7 students reached an interesting milestone this week. They’ve been learning remotely from home for longer than they were with us in first term. We congratulate them on the great job that they’ve done in transitioning into secondary and then pivoting into a new way of learning.
Thank you again to families for all your support during Learning from Home, to students for your adaptability and the responsibility you have shown, and to all staff for all your hard work. We can all be very proud of what has been achieved in this time.
Reminders about the Return to School
Families and students have received a Return to School Based Learning Guide. We ask that students and parents / carers read this carefully.
Thank you to the Student Leaders who have produced an entertaining short video with the key messages from this guide. This can viewed here:
Remember to stay safe we need to:
Stay home if we are unwell and seek medical advice.
Practice physical distancing, where we can.
Follow good hygiene practices.
As well as this, we need to reduce all non-essential adults on site. Families are reminded that where you can, please contact us by phone. If you need to come onsite, don’t forget social distancing and hand sanitising.
Winter Uniform
Learning from home has meant that students have been able to dress in a more relaxed manner when working, however, as we return to school we remind families that they now need to be in full winter uniform.
As classrooms might be slightly cooler than normal due to some doors and windows being kept open to ventilate classrooms, students will need to wear their blazer and may need warm undergarments. However, these should not be seen. Hoodies, beanies and other obvious non-uniform items will not be allowed.
A copy of the uniform is included later in the newsletter.
Parking Restrictions
The City of Brimbank has contacted all schools to let us know that parking and speed restrictions are now again being enforced around schools. Please take note of all signs around the school at drop off and pick up times.
Newsletter
This term our newsletter will be published online only. Families will receive an SMS with a link to the newsletter, and students will receive the newsletter by email.
Newsletter Days for Term 2 2020:

Reconciliation Week
This week is Reconciliation Week. Our Social Justice team has acknowledged this time by organising a prayer for the school bulletin each morning. The prayers will focus on the great contribution the indigenous community has made to the cultural life of Australia. The Year 9's will be taking a closer look at Aboriginal spirituality in their term 3 Religious Education unit `God in Australia’.
The image above was taken at the Australian Catholic Youth Festival where our 11 student representatives had the opportunity to hear from Aboriginal elders about the significant link between Aboriginal spirituality and our own Catholic Faith.
My COVID-19 Mountain
When students return to school next week the first action they will do when they meet with there PC group, will be to reflect on their COVID-19 experience. The students will share and document what they have learned through their 10 weeks in isolation. This time has been difficult but also a great time for reflection. The following is an excerpt from Tuesday's activity.
"Imagine that the last ten weeks of dealing with COVID-19 is like walking through a mountain range. This journey was unexpected and one we did not choose. It began with a steep curve where we had to learn new skills and ultimately discovered in ourselves an ability to adapt to change. At times, the journey through our COVID mountain was tough and at times we would feel quite alone. As we persisted through the terrain, we reached a peak where we could see clearly all the territory that we had covered. At the top of the mountain there is great clarity and we can see so much further than what we could see at the beginning of our journey. Now that we are returning to our CRC St Albans community, we know that the journey through the mountains has not ended and that there will be other mountains to climb as we adapt to our new ‘normal'.
Jesus saw the crowds.
So he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him. Then he began to teach them. Matthew 5:1-2
Mountains were significant places for Jesus and featured in many gospel stories. In Matthew's Gospel on the top of Mount Sinai Jesus delivered the Beatitudes, which were his key teaching to his followers at that time. The Beatitudes present a challenge of living a life of humility and strength, a necessary message for every age."
Final Prayer
A contemporary version of the Beatitudes, inspired by ourCOVID-19 Experience.
Blessed are those who heal those affected by COVID-19, for they will be restored to right relationship with all of Creation.
Blessed are those that hold the space for dialogue with the natural world, God and each other, for they will hear the fullness of life.
Blessed are those who repent for life lost at human hands, for they will be forgiven.
Blessed are those who see with the eyes of their heart, for their vision will imagine the potential for new life to emerge.
Blessed are those who live simply, for their discipline will bring harmony with the rhythms of life.
Blessed are those who cultivate a life of prayer, for they will know an inner cosmos that honors the outer world.
Blessed are those who participate in civil affairs, for they will bring the cry and song of the earth to systems of power and policy.
Blessed are those who practice gratitude, for they will receive the gift of abundance.
Amen
The Sport Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) Team have set a series of challenges for our students (and families) to complete while learning from home.
Students are encouraged to complete a minimum of 5 activities each week. Those who meet the challenge guidelines, will receive a Subway voucher electronically, thanks to the generosity of Subway Delahey. Students will also gain House points towards the Williams Cup for successfully participating in the SHAPE Challenge each week.
Take care and stay active!

Great Australian Cross Country Challenge
As our SACCSS Cross Country event did not happen in early May, I registered our school with the Great Australian Cross Country Challenge. This challenge is open to all staff and students in our school and allows them to be active and log their times and distance on the website (once they have registered). Students are able to run or walk as many times as they like from now until the end of August and see how they stack up against other students from other schools in their age group.
If students would like to register for the event please go to:
Great Australian Cross Country Challenge and use our school code: CRCS.
If you are under 14 years of age you will need your parents to assist you with the registration process.
Happy running everyone!
Congratulations to Izabella Abdulahad who is currently sitting in 8th position for her age group in Victoria and Rhaven Hao who is currently sitting at 8th in Australia for her age group and 2nd in Victoria for her age group. Well done to both students.
LEARNING REMOTELY - STUDENT WORK
SCIENCE - A TRIP TO MARS
In Science, the Year 7s are studying the unit “Matter” where they explore the three states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. Water is a substance that exists in all three states. The students went on a “virtual excursion” to Mars last week and explored how astronauts would solve the problem of finding water there. Below are some of their reflections.
I felt quite excited learning about Mars. Watching the TED video was really intriguing for me, plus I got to learn about what NASA is trying to figure out. If I'm being honest, I would only live on Mars of it felt the same as Earth. Video games, food, drink, a peaceful neighborhood, family, friends, and stores. That's all I need if I want to live on Mars. Evan
Today’s lesson was so interesting and cool to learn about. I would only visit Mars not live there because I'm happy here but I just want to see Mars myself. I would do some scientific things on Mars if I go for a trip there because it would be interesting and fun but, I will make sure that it's safe before doing anything. Noor
I felt really interested after watching that video about living on Mars. I would like to live on Mars because Mars looks really fun and I hope that it is safe to live on Mars. Christopher
This lesson was good because we got to learn more about liquids, solids and gases and I would not live on Mars because Ii'm used to living on Earth, and it would take long to get to Mars. Mior
I would love to go to mars because I think it would be fun. I was also sad when I heard that we could possibly have a shorter lifespan but I got happier again when I heard that we might even get stronger. In the end of the lesson I felt great. Liam
I feel that this topic is going to be a very interesting because of what we are looking at and how this could be involved on our lives in the future. This lesson also sparked a lot of new ideas in my head about this topic and it has now got me thinking. I personally would only live on mars if the trip was safe and if the planet was safe to live on however i think that the idea of living on mars is a really cool thing. Kayden
I feel like I want to go to mars, but it is really expensive. I need a lot of oxygen to survive. I would love to go on a one week trip but I can't live there without my family. Yani
HEALTH
In Year 10 Health, our students have been learning about Mental Health and how important it is to get help if you are suffering from a mental health disorder. Angel Catayong has created a fantastic story book for young students to understand what depression is and how to get help. Well done Angel!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The Year 9s were given the topic: 'Invent Your Own Sport'. This involved creating rules, designing uniforms, equipment lists and more. Here is Martina Tran and Julie Pham's work:
YEAR 7 PERFORMING ARTS Script Writing from a Scenario
Task: Students had to write their own script of a short scene based on a chosen scenario. Here are a couple of snippets from student’s scripts:
Scenario: You’re a vice president of a large company. You just hung up the phone after speaking with the company president, who has directed you to fire one of your employees. What he doesn’t know is that this employee is your best friend—a friend who helped you get the position that you now hold! You hear someone knocking on your office door. When you look through the window, you see that it’s your friend.
*Bethany and Jackson are sitting down doing work, when suddenly, Jackson’s phone starts to ring, he looks at the phone, then puts it back down*
Bethany: Aren’t you gonna pick up?
Jackson: It’s just Chris, don’t wanna deal with him right now
Bethany: You’re gonna get fired if you keep doing that, y’know?
Jackson: Ugh, fine.
*Jackson picks up the phone*
Jackson: Hello, Jackson here. (In a monotone voice)
Christopher: Took you long enough! Have you done it?
Jackson: Done…?
Christopher: I SENT YOU AN EMAIL (He sounds *very* annoyed) I need you to fire Bethany!
Jackson: Bethany??? Why?
Christopher: She’s getting on my nerves! I need her to go. If she’s not gone by tomorrow, I’ll fire BOTH of you!
*Christopher hangs up the phone before Jackson could say anything*
Izabella Abdulahad – 7 Snowy
Scenario:
In ten minutes your dinner guests will arrive. Everything appears to be ready, but when you open the oven door to take out the roast, you see that it is completely raw. You forgot to turn on the oven!
*there is a knock at the door*
You: I’ll be there in a sec. *walks over to door and opens it* Welcome, you’re the first here.
Friend: Is the food ready cause I’m starving.
You: Yeah it will be ready in a sec, I just have to go grab the chicken.
*You go over to the oven and open it*
You: (*gasps* ) Chicken isn’t supposed to be pink and fleshy right?
Friend: Of course, you're not going to be serving raw chicken, are you? (*sarcastically*)
You: (*Gulps*) I forgot to turn the oven on
Friend: Well, your Boss and his assistant will be coming any minute now, you do know that he’s a food critic?
You: Well then, we just have to find a way to cook a whole chicken in 2 - 3 minutes.
