LEARNING REMOTELY - STUDENT WORK
SCIENCE - A TRIP TO MARS
In Science, the Year 7s are studying the unit “Matter” where they explore the three states of matter: solids, liquids and gases. Water is a substance that exists in all three states. The students went on a “virtual excursion” to Mars last week and explored how astronauts would solve the problem of finding water there. Below are some of their reflections.
I felt quite excited learning about Mars. Watching the TED video was really intriguing for me, plus I got to learn about what NASA is trying to figure out. If I'm being honest, I would only live on Mars of it felt the same as Earth. Video games, food, drink, a peaceful neighborhood, family, friends, and stores. That's all I need if I want to live on Mars. Evan
Today’s lesson was so interesting and cool to learn about. I would only visit Mars not live there because I'm happy here but I just want to see Mars myself. I would do some scientific things on Mars if I go for a trip there because it would be interesting and fun but, I will make sure that it's safe before doing anything. Noor
I felt really interested after watching that video about living on Mars. I would like to live on Mars because Mars looks really fun and I hope that it is safe to live on Mars. Christopher
This lesson was good because we got to learn more about liquids, solids and gases and I would not live on Mars because Ii'm used to living on Earth, and it would take long to get to Mars. Mior
I would love to go to mars because I think it would be fun. I was also sad when I heard that we could possibly have a shorter lifespan but I got happier again when I heard that we might even get stronger. In the end of the lesson I felt great. Liam
I feel that this topic is going to be a very interesting because of what we are looking at and how this could be involved on our lives in the future. This lesson also sparked a lot of new ideas in my head about this topic and it has now got me thinking. I personally would only live on mars if the trip was safe and if the planet was safe to live on however i think that the idea of living on mars is a really cool thing. Kayden
I feel like I want to go to mars, but it is really expensive. I need a lot of oxygen to survive. I would love to go on a one week trip but I can't live there without my family. Yani
HEALTH
In Year 10 Health, our students have been learning about Mental Health and how important it is to get help if you are suffering from a mental health disorder. Angel Catayong has created a fantastic story book for young students to understand what depression is and how to get help. Well done Angel!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The Year 9s were given the topic: 'Invent Your Own Sport'. This involved creating rules, designing uniforms, equipment lists and more. Here is Martina Tran and Julie Pham's work:
YEAR 7 PERFORMING ARTS Script Writing from a Scenario
Task: Students had to write their own script of a short scene based on a chosen scenario. Here are a couple of snippets from student’s scripts:
Scenario: You’re a vice president of a large company. You just hung up the phone after speaking with the company president, who has directed you to fire one of your employees. What he doesn’t know is that this employee is your best friend—a friend who helped you get the position that you now hold! You hear someone knocking on your office door. When you look through the window, you see that it’s your friend.
*Bethany and Jackson are sitting down doing work, when suddenly, Jackson’s phone starts to ring, he looks at the phone, then puts it back down*
Bethany: Aren’t you gonna pick up?
Jackson: It’s just Chris, don’t wanna deal with him right now
Bethany: You’re gonna get fired if you keep doing that, y’know?
Jackson: Ugh, fine.
*Jackson picks up the phone*
Jackson: Hello, Jackson here. (In a monotone voice)
Christopher: Took you long enough! Have you done it?
Jackson: Done…?
Christopher: I SENT YOU AN EMAIL (He sounds *very* annoyed) I need you to fire Bethany!
Jackson: Bethany??? Why?
Christopher: She’s getting on my nerves! I need her to go. If she’s not gone by tomorrow, I’ll fire BOTH of you!
*Christopher hangs up the phone before Jackson could say anything*

Scenario:
In ten minutes your dinner guests will arrive. Everything appears to be ready, but when you open the oven door to take out the roast, you see that it is completely raw. You forgot to turn on the oven!
*there is a knock at the door*
You: I’ll be there in a sec. *walks over to door and opens it* Welcome, you’re the first here.
Friend: Is the food ready cause I’m starving.
You: Yeah it will be ready in a sec, I just have to go grab the chicken.
*You go over to the oven and open it*
You: (*gasps* ) Chicken isn’t supposed to be pink and fleshy right?
Friend: Of course, you're not going to be serving raw chicken, are you? (*sarcastically*)
You: (*Gulps*) I forgot to turn the oven on
Friend: Well, your Boss and his assistant will be coming any minute now, you do know that he’s a food critic?
You: Well then, we just have to find a way to cook a whole chicken in 2 - 3 minutes.
