Holy Father, God of Love,
You are the Creator of this land and of all good things.
Bless the Federation of Catholic Regional College,
Who, through your servant Fr John O’Reilly,
You inspired and gave vision to.
As individuals, we are called to service and sacrifice,
to take up our cross daily.
Inspired by the Gospels, may we emulate your Son,
through compassion and goodwill,
By sharing in the Eucharist, in solidarity with one another.
As a community, we look to welcome new members into our ellipse,
Which is bound together by the love of Christ,
in which all are accepted and unified.
Give us the strength to be true disciples in our ministry to others.
In our schools, we are challenged in our learning to be our best each day.
Allow us to use our God given gifts and unique talents,
to live out the message of Jesus Christ.
Through encouraging education,
in the North-Western suburbs of Melbourne and for all young people.
We celebrate the diversity within our Federation,
and foster reconciliation as people under the Southern Cross.
Bless us, your sons and daughters who form this community.
May the light of our Federation shine upon all your people. Amen
Our opening prayer is known as the Federation prayer. It was written by student leaders from the Catholic Regional Colleges, and was gifted to Fr. John O’Reilly upon his retirement in 2017. It was an attempt to capture the enormous impact that he had on generations of young people, and their appreciation of his vision, service and presence. On this, the occasion of his passing into eternal life, it is timely to once again reflect on these words.
Fr. John served the Sacred Heart-Emmaus parish for 53 years, 49 as Parish Priest. Over the past week it has been lovely to listen to people’s stories and memories. His belief that nothing is impossible; his unwavering commitment to the Eucharist and the the mission of the Church; his ability to see a need and to do something about it are common threads in these stories.
Father often described the St Albans community as being ‘God’s own people’. It is a lovely expression that describes something that is beautiful beyond mere words. He always appreciated people’s warmth, their readiness to welcome newcomers and to share what they had, even if they had little. We have been blessed to be served by ‘God’s own priest’: a faith-filled man who was generous, hardworking and always ready to trust in what God was calling him to do.
Eternal rest grant unto Fr. John, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live,
even if they die (Jn 11:25)
Welcome
Welcome to the 2025 school year. I trust that you’ve had an enjoyable break and are looking forward to all that this year will bring.
Despite the hot weather, we have enjoyed a really good start. There was lots of noise and excitement on the first morning as students re-connected with friends after the break. It is great to see everyone so positive and ready to do their best.
I would like to congratulate students on how well they have settled into the routines and rhythm of the year and to thank families and staff for all the support you have provided to ensure a smooth start.
Our theme for 2025 is Who do you say I am?. It is a question that invites us to reflect, to search, and to deepen our faith and relationship with God.
New families
On behalf of the school community, I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to the students and families who’ve joined us this year, particularly our 175 Year 7 students.
The start of secondary school is an important milestone; something that students look forward to with great anticipation and excitement. I hope that your start has been a smooth one, that you are beginning to feel ‘at home’ and that your time with us is all that you hoped for, and more. I know that all staff who work with Year 7 are delighted with the start they have made.
New Staff
With growing enrolments and an additional three classes across the school, we have a number of new staff. I am delighted to welcome Mr Blake Robinson (Health and PE), Ms Liz Palsis (English and RE), Mr Mark Kelly (Health and P.E), Ms Celine Chung (English), Mr Edwin Sammut (Maths), Ms Emily Nancarrow (OED and Humanities), Mr Bert Collard (Science), Mr Samuel King (Science), Ms Georgia Smith (Humanities and RE) and Ms Caoimhe Leap (Humanities and RE) who join our teaching staff.
Each brings a wealth of experience, many gifts, fresh ideas and a strong commitment to our students. I wish them every blessing for their time with us.
MacKillop Assembly
Earlier this week we gathered as a school community for the MacKillop Assembly. This was an opportunity to formally mark the start of the 2025 school year and to celebrate the achievements of students who attained all round excellence in learning in 2024.

Newsletter
The newsletter is published fortnightly and is available online on Day 5 (Friday Week 1).
Newsletter Days for Term 1 2025:
Fridays: 28 February, 14 March, 28 March
Supervision
Parents and students are advised that the College grounds are supervised on a daily basis from 8.20am to 3.30pm.
Outside these hours there are sometimes special activities, practices or events. For these parents are notified through the weekly newsletter or a special letter.
Parents need to know that students who arrive prior to 8.20am and who leave after 3.30pm are not supervised.
The library is open until 4.30pm on Monday – Thursday and 4.00pm on Friday. Students are able to complete homework or read quietly in this space if they need to wait for parents.
School start / finish times
Students need to be at school by 8.40am and classes finish at 3.10pm each afternoon. However, students may be detained by teachers until 3.25pm without formal notification to parents. This allows teachers to follow up work, provide additional assistance or to address minor behavior issues before they become major.
Notification of Absences
We ask that parents or guardians contact the school before 10.00am if a student is absent on any day. This can be done by phone on 9366 2544 or email Atalalina Ulugia Sa’ena at aulugia@crcstalbans.com.au. As Atalina is responsible for tracking absences we ask that parent/carer/guardian notification by email be directed only to her, not to other staff.
If the phone call or email notifying absence is received it will be taken as the official explanation of the student’s absence and no further note is required. If no contact is made with the school, a note explaining the absence will be required on the student’s return to school.
To ensure the safety of students the College has a policy of contacting parents when a student is away from school without notification. Atalina rings parents after 10.00am. It is a great help if parents/guardians ring before we make contact.

Mackillop Assembly Prayer: Who do you say I am
Our first school assembly of the year, the MacKillop Assembly, provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on our 2025 school theme: "Who do you say I am?" led by our student leaders. The assembly challenged us to consider the depth of this question—one that Jesus Himself asked His disciples.
Throughout our school, this question is symbolically carried in the brass footprints that mark sacred spaces within our community. These footprints, found on our Welcome Wall, in the community garden, and near the peace signs in the Year 7 area, were created using the footprints of CRC St Albans students from Years 7-10. Each footprint invites us to pause, reflect, and consider how we recognize Christ in our lives and in those around us.
As a Catholic community, we are continually called to deepen our understanding of who God is and how we live out our faith each day. The question "Who do you say I am?" is not just about words—it is an invitation to see, listen and act with compassion, justice and love.
May this theme guide us throughout the year, shaping our conversations, our actions and our relationships with one another. The following prayer was read by the student leaders at the assembly.
Loving God,
As we begin this new school year, we thank You for Your presence among us. You walk with us in our learning, in our friendships, and in the moments that shape who we are.
Today, we have been reminded of the question Jesus asked His disciples: “Who do you say I am?”.
It is a question that invites us to reflect, to search and to deepen our faith.
As we walk through our school, we see the brass footprints—signs of those who have come before us, leaving their mark on this community. May these footprints remind us that we too, are on a journey, seeking to know You more.
Help us to be people of faith, courage and kindness. May our actions reflect Your love and may we support one another as we grow in understanding. Bless our school, our teachers and our families, and guide us in all that we do.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Year 9 Religion Education
In Year 9 Religion we are studying Biblical Prophets. At the beginning of the unit students are asked to contemplate the big questions, such as, `What would the world look like without God?’. Students completed a collage of what they think the world would look like. Here are some examples of the Year 9 Student work.
e - Safety News
Dear Students and Families,
What a busy start to the year! So much information to digest about school routines and procedures, what to do and where to go, notes to sign and rules to remember. It is sometimes easy to overlook in our everyday online practices the importance of safe online behaviour.
e-Safety news is a reminder that online positive and safe behaviours need to be lived, practiced and enforced. Your partnership and support mean the world to us as we work together to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Important Announcements
We want to remind our students about the importance of being safe online. Each student has signed and agreed to uphold the school's code of conduct and practice the following e-Safety behaviors:
- Be Polite: Always send messages that are polite and respectful.
- Be Responsible: Use appropriate language when online.
- Be Careful About Sharing Personal Information: Avoid sharing personal details such as your full name, home address, or phone number. If someone asks for personal information, please inform a teacher.
- Be Critical When Using the Internet: Not all information online is accurate. Develop critical thinking skills to assess the validity of information and report any suspicious content to a teacher.
- Be Protective of Your Work and Others: Respect others' ownership of their work. Do not copy without permission and clearly attribute sources.
- Be Aware: Follow the terms and conditions of apps and software used in the classroom.
- Be Safe and Secure: Do not access others’ files or share passwords. Protect your privacy with strong passphrases.
Mistakes will be made as long as we learn and grow from these experiences. These e-safe behaviours will be reviewed with students over the next few weeks through our Daily Messages, starting with 'Be Polite' to ensure everyone understands the importance of using laptops responsibly and the consequences of not following the code of conduct.
Celebrations from the Week
On February 11th, we celebrated Safer Internet Day! Students learned five important tips to stay safe online:
1. Be kind
2. Be mindful by balancing your time online
3. Speak up by reporting harmful content
4. Start the conversation about online safety
5. Share resources
We are proud of our students for engaging in these discussions and taking an active role in promoting online safety.
Additional Information
We are excited to announce the formation of an e-Safety Committee, consisting of students who will consult on e-safety policies and address student concerns. We encourage any interested students to submit an expression of interest. Application forms will be available from the front office starting Tuesday 18th February and will close on February 25th.
Thank You!
We are grateful for your continued support and partnership in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students. On-line behaviour is a real concern in this new cyber world. Together, we can work towards creating a positive online environment for. Let’s keep the conversation going.

我爱你 - I Love You
Our Year 7 and 8 students have been enthusiastically learning to write "I love you" (我爱你, wǒ ài nǐ) in Chinese. With great focus and determination, they took pride in their beautifully written hanzi. More than just practicing their writing, they really embraced our school’s mission to "love one another" by encouraging and supporting each other in their learning. It was a wonderful display of kindness, teamwork and a love for language!

Careers Corner
Hello Parents & Students,
Let me introduce myself: I am Ms Lee-Ann Steele, the new Careers & Pathway Leader at the College. The students will be familiar with me as I have been a Food Technology Teacher here for many years.
My role as Careers & Pathway Leader will entail guiding the Year 9s & 10s as they navigate their future pathways. This term the Year 10s will be starting their personal Morrisby Profile Analysis. This will provide them with a comprehensive personal profile, measuring their career & study interests, motivations and preferences. It is an accurate tool that will help them set goals and explore a variety of courses & career options.
Here is an overview of Morrisby, which will explain further the process.
If you have any questions regarding your child's future pathway, please contact me.
