Ever generous God,
You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop
to live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and to be constant in bringing hope and encouragement
to those who were disheartened, lonely or needy.
With confidence in your generous providence
and through the intercession of Saint Mary MacKillop
we ask that our faith and hope be renewed by the Holy Spirit
so that we too, like Mary MacKillop, may live with courage, trust and openness.
Ever generous God hear our prayer.
We ask this through Jesus Christ. Amen.
On Tuesday we celebrate the Feast of St Mary of the Cross. Mary was a woman of great faith. In all she did, she promoted the dignity of others and worked tirelessly to help them. She provided comfort, compassion, education and love in our Australian context. Her steadfast commitment to her faith and the service of others is a true inspiration to us all. Below is a reflection on Mary’s life by Michael McGirr.
There is much that we can learn from the way in which Mary MacKillop approached life, her faith and her relationships with others. “For her, the Kingdom of God was something you worked for and the work was often tough. By the same token, the real world in which she lived was a place in which she experienced hope. It was this hope that enabled her to move to a small town and start a school for those whose educational opportunities were limited. Such schools, scattered far and wide, became a familiar part of the work of her Sisters of St Joseph and an icon of the church in Australia. Her life and work helped to transplant the message of Jesus to a new country and make it feel at home here. She trusted God even when there was plenty to worry about. She never gave up.”

Reciprocal Reading in Religion
The Yr 9’s we used a reciprocal reading approach to unpack the meaning of `The Rabbits`. The story explores the dispossession of First Nations people by using rabbits as a metaphor for the white settlers. After reading the story students discussed the negative impact the white settlers had on our First Nations people's beliefs and culture.
Animating our Refugee Experience Stories
This year the Social Justice Team has been collating Refugee Week stories from students within the school community. After reading through the collected stories, they felt the best way to bring these stories to life is through animation. To achieve this goal they have set up Catholic Regional College St Albans first ever Animation Club. This term, the club will meet on Fridays at lunchtimes and hope to animate their first story.
Year 10 Religion students Fundraising Projects for Father Nestor School in Uganda
The Year 10 Religion students are currently completing the unit `A Call to Justice`. In addition to learning about Catholic Social Teaching, the students will participate in two authentic learning experiences. The first activity is that their Religion class has to raise money for Father Nestor’s School in Uganda. So far two classes have raised $500 selling hot chocolates and sausages at lunchtime. On September the 5th the Year 10’s will be going into the city to learn more about the issue of homelessness and reflect on the Catholic Social Teaching response to this issue.
Student Led Conferences
Monday 7th & Tuesday 8th August
The first semester reports are now available through the Parent Access Module at:
http://www.crcstalbans.catholic.edu.au/. (PAM can also be accessed via the SIMON
Everywhere app.)
Students have access to their reports through the Learning Management System. During Pastoral Care, they will be given the opportunity to reflect on their report and identify their strengths and areas for development.
At the Student/Parent/Teacher interviews, your son/daughter will share their reflection on what they have achieved, what they have recognised about themselves as learners and what they will focus on in Semester Two with respect to their learning and wellbeing.
Student Led Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences
The interviews will take place with Pastoral Care teachers on Monday 7th August from 4:00 – 8:00pm and on Tuesday 8th August from 9:00am – 2:30pm.
Your son/daughter will lead the conference which is expected to run for approximately 20 minutes.
Year 7 interviews will be conducted in the students’ homerooms.
Year 8 and 9 interviews will take place in the College Hall.
Year 10 interviews will run in the Year 10 Centre.
The Year 10 conferences will be a combination of student self-reflection and finalisation of Year 11 Courses.
Wellbeing for Learning
Altruistic August
True happiness comes from caring for ourselves AND caring for others. We have lots of suggestions for little acts that make a big difference. And being kind also brings us a greater sense of fulfilment too.
See the Altruistic August calendar which is full of great ways to help spread happiness this month, please share it with others too.
Remember that your smiles, warmth and friendship have an amazing ripple effect for others. So let's do whatever we can this month to build a happier and kinder community together – and remember to extend that same kindness to yourself too.
Years 7-10 Pastoral Care Program
Term 3 Concepts and Theme
Catholic Regional College Pastoral Care program provides a sequenced curriculum from Years 7 to 10 using a multimodal approach designed to develop the achievement and wellbeing of the whole person (spiritually, intellectually, morally, physically, socially and emotionally).
Our Pastoral Care program centers around the social-emotional learning (SEL) model, a school-based organisational framework through which students learn to become lifelong learners who recognise, reflect and manage their emotions and empathise with others.
Our Pastoral Care program fosters the development of positive relationships. It provides opportunities for students to grow from challenging experiences to contribute positively to their community and flourish as responsible global citizens.
