FAITH MATTERS
The year 8’s this term have been learning about early Christian Communities. Paul was essential to communicating and connecting to many communities across the Mediterranean. The tool he used to keep these connections alive were letter writing. As we draw closer to Christmas the year 8’s have been reflecting on how they can build closer relationships with people in their community. To spread the joy of Christmas the Year 8’s are currently writing cards for each resident of Cumberland Manor .
The year 7’s have been unpacking the story of Jesus birth. The have learnt how the author has written the story for a particular community and has adapted the story to suit a Jewish or Gentile audience. The students have then recontextualised the story for the audience of today and discussed what are the major themes of the story. It has revealed that the nativity story is not just a story of hope of new born king but also a story of social justice of families without homes looking for a place to shelter. In this spirit the sevens are also collecting gifts for St Vinnies to distribute over Christmas.
