HANDS ON LEARNING

2022 has been a big year of firsts for CRC St. Albans - our first full school year together since pre pandemic times, our first Athletics Carnival since 2018 and our first time ever running the Hands on Learning program. Hands on Learning provides students with the opportunity to develop their hands-on and interpersonal skills while creating projects to improve their school and wider community. The Hands on Learning team have been busy improving the school community through projects such as creating safe paths through the school garden, creating a chicken run for the schools chickens to forage, and dust bathe, as well as a dining table and chairs to share communal meals around. The team have shown huge growth in their confidence with a variety of tools and projects and have demonstrated their capacity to be leaders within their school and wider community. Congratulations to everyone in the program for a successful 2022 and looking forward to an even bigger 2023.

Markus Antunovic, Wilsin Ghpreta, Dylan Nguyen, Isaac Zahra, Antonio Renda, Melak Al-Najjar, Atem Malual, Phuc Mai, Charlie Ferdinand and Leo Nguyen.

IMAGES EXHIBITION 2022

After three years of restrictions, our annual Images Exhibition was full of colour and inspiration. Close to 200 people came through the exhibition on the opening night and they were all so in awe of the incredible work from our talented students. Work from Visual Arts, Visual Communication and Design, Media Arts, Technology and even our Hands-on Learning students, were displayed with thought and creativity.
I would like to thank all students for inspiring us all with your incredible talents.

Thank you to our student curators: Laticia Nguyen, Vincent Truong, Amber Nguyen, Emily Nguyen, Joseph Tolentino, Mariam Maroka, Amanda Rafoo, Alejandro Celestial, Mia Lekkas; who worked so hard over 4 days to set up the exhibition. To the students in Year 9 Food Technology, thank you for the beautiful snack
boxes and extremely professional shortbread cookies as a thank you gift for all who attended. I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mrs Heidi Collins, who gave up her time to come and judge the Visual Arts and Visual Communication and Design works. Thank you also to Mr Peter Renda for judging the Media Studies Videos. It was beautiful to see members of our school choir there to sing our school song. I would also like to thank all the staff involved in setting up the exhibition; Ms Flora Peteruccelli, Ms Laura Cioccia, Ms Maria Calafiore, Ms Emma Baldacchino, Mr Justin Mead, Mr Mark Johnston, Mr Zac Dunn, Ms Lee Ann Steele, Ms Carmel Baronessa, Adrian and Hasi.

Thanks also goes to all our office staff who assisted in many ways. Finally, I would like to thank everyone who attended the opening; it was so heart warming to see students and their families together at such a special event. We look forward to next year’s exhibition which will be held in our new Technology Centre.

WELLBEING FOR LEARNING

New Ways November

Getting absorbed in a new activity is a great way to boost your wellbeing. And when facing challenges, it can really help to take a new perspective or find a new way forward.

Please see attached the New Ways November calendar, which is full of actions to help you keep learning and we encourage you to share it with family and friends.

The important thing is to take action, as small changes can bring significant benefits.

Student Wellbeing Support

Over the next few weeks, students will be completing assessment tasks, tests and exams as they begin to finalise the year. So, it is important that they remember and use the strategies required to help them achieve their best and be their best. Please see a link to Kidshelpline (which was shared with our Year 9’s during Community Homeroom), which provides some great information, strategies and resources to assist students and families during this busy and sometimes stressful time.

Kids Helpline Information
