Principal's Message

Creativity

Over the past few weeks we have enjoyed the Image 2022 Arts and Technology exhibition and the Year 10 Music Performance Evening; Year 7 students have been working with guest presenters from 100 Stories on their creative writing, and the Yearbook Committee have been finalizing the 2022 Yearbook.

As I was watched the performances and viewed the exhibition and the films, I was in awe of the talent on display. The performances, designs, art work, technology projects and films displayed depth of thought, fresh ideas and unique insights about our world. Some were sobering, others quirky or poignant but all expressed ideas with inherent beauty and creativity. Well done to everyone involved. These experiences have been a joyful reminder of the importance of imagination and creative thinking and expression in our lives.

The arts give expression to the beauty of the faith and proclaim the Gospel message of the grandeur of God’s creation. When we admire a work of art or a marvel of nature, we discover how everything speaks to us of Him and of His love. That artists of our time, though their creativity, may help us discover the beauty of creation. (Pope Francis, August 2017)

Thank you to all the artists (poets, musicians, painters, film makers, sculptors, writers, photographers, designers and craftspeople) in our community for helping us, through your gifts, to discover and re-discover the beauty of creation.

Thank you to the Arts and Technology teachers, students and the student curators who spent many hours working on the exhibition and performances. Your dedication, energy and hard work were well rewarded in the responses of your guests. Thank you to Year 9 Food Technology for the catering.

Lastly, thank you to family and friends who joined us for the evening. It was great to see you come out in such numbers. Your presence and support on the night was very much appreciated.

Inter-house Athletics Carnival

Despite moving the carnival from Moonee Valley to Coburg due to floods and a rainy finish to the day, we managed to run most of the Inter-house Athletics a few weeks ago. There were many very good individual feats and some great team performances. The weather did not dampen participation or House spirit.

Thank you to everyone who came in fancy dress. The costumes and colour added to the fun and House spirit on the day.

Congratulations to Corbett who were the overall winners by 12.5 points from Guelen. O’Reilly took out the Girls’ aggregate and Guelen won the Boys’ aggregate.

Thank you to all involved in organising the day, particularly the Sports Captains, Mr Boudaher and the Health and PE staff, and all staff and officials. Lastly, thank you to all who participated and gave their absolute best for their team.

Year 8 Premier League

I would like to congratulate Year 8 students on a very good Premier League season. Students displayed great sportsmanship, fine team spirit and strong endeavour in all sports.

Congratulations to the Girls’ basketball and Boys’ volleyball teams who have made the semi-finals. They play CRC Caroline Springs and CRC North Keilor this afternoon for a place in the grand-final. Best wishes to both teams.

Thank you to all the staff who coached a team, to Mr Boudaher and Mr Marshall for their organisation of the events and all the students who represented our school so well.

Finishing the Year

Students across the school have a range of exams, class tests and assessment tasks which need to be completed over the next month. It’s important that everyone remains focussed and works hard to the end of the year.

As always, students need to be at school each day unless they are sick. Sometimes students will ask parents and carers for a day off towards the end of the year, claiming that things are winding down. This is not the case. The final weeks of the year are a time to put in extra effort, not to wind down. The time to kick back will come with the holidays.

Enrolment for 2023

Enrolment at the College continues automatically from year to year. However, if a student in Years 7, 8 or 9 is not returning in 2023, we ask that families notify us as soon as possible. Please email echalmers@crcstalbans.com.au or ring Eileen Chalmers on 9366 2544 with this information.

Your assistance with this is much appreciated as we have a waiting list at some levels and would like to let these families know sooner, rather than later.
