SWIMMING CARNIVAL

COMPET_1_.png

On the 3rd of March, we held our annual swimming carnival and we all had a joyous day watching the competition or taking part in events. Even though we weren’t able to enjoy the day as a whole school we still managed to embrace our House spirit. I hope you all had fun relaxing and bonding with your friends with the various land events such as volleyball, jenga, chess and tug-of-war. We’re open to suggestions on what we can improve on for the next carnival, so please let us know.

Congratulations to everyone who participated and won their events. Please look out for more activities and events happening during lunchtime over the coming months.

Being the Corbett House Captain I’m super proud to announce that Corbett blasted their way to first place with 404 points! Another congratulations to the following students who received medals by knocking out the rest of the competition from their year levels!

WELLBEING FOR LEARNING

Character Strength of the Week

Leadership (Virtue of Justice)

Definition: refers to the tendency to organise and encourage a group to get things done, while maintaining good relations within the group.

Explanation: Encourages others, organises groups to get things done and sets a good example.

Synonyms: Guidance, direction, supervision, influence.

Quote: "Where there is no vision, the people perish" (Proverbs 29:18)

"A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go, but ought to be" (Rosalynn Carter).

How to ignite your Leadership:

  • How do you specifically express your strength of leadership?
  • How do you feel when you are leading others?
  • What have been your greatest leadership success and challenges?
  • How do you decide when to lead and when to allow others to lead?

Character Strengths

We believe everyone is unique and have something different to offer. Over the next week students will unpack and share their Character Strengths and celebrate their similarities and differences with one another in Pastoral Care.

What are Character Strengths? They are the qualities that come most natural to you.

  • Every individual possesses all 24-character strengths in different degrees, giving each person a unique character or strength profile.
  • When you know your strengths, you can improve your life and thrive.
  • Research reveals that people who use their strengths a lot are 18 times more likely to be flourishing than those who do not use their strengths.
  • Character strengths are a vehicle for improving wellbeing and providing a sense of purpose and hope.

If family members would like to complete the VIA Character Strengths Profile and share and celebrate with your child, you can do so by visiting this website: https://www.viacharacter.org/survey/account/register#youth

Welcome to Mindful March

Please see our Mindful March Daily Reflections attached.

Mindfulness can help us respond more calmly, even in dark times. With war returning to Europe, many of us are experiencing a complex mix of emotions, including fear and sadness as well as compassion and hope.

This month we encourage you to pause, breathe and find ways to live more mindfully.

Remember that inner peace can contribute to outer peace too.

YEAR 7 VISUAL ARTS

The year 7 Visual Art students have been busy designing a gargoyle creature which they will be making out of terracotta clay. They learnt about the 'pinch pot' technique which will be used to create the body of their creature. We can't wait to see the final product.
