House Captain Update

Tu_Angela_2021.jpeg
Hey everyone, my name is Angela Tu and I am one of the O'Reilly House Captains. Last week before lockdown, the House Captains ran a futsal competition for the Year 9’s and year 8’s during lunch. Many students participated which was great to see! Round 1 was played by both Year levels with Reis vs O'Reilly and Corbett vs Guelen (results below). When school begins on campus again, we will run round 1 for the Year 10 & 7’s and we encourage students to participate in any lunchtime activities to have some fun and also earn house points!

Staying healthy and active can benefit your health and the way you look at everything that is happening right now. Simple things such as going on a walk, playing with your pet, working out, exercising, kicking a ball, playing basketball, etc, can help you stay healthy and active while in lockdown. So get up and do something fun and active!

Interschool Futsal Competition

The Year 9&10 girls team performed very well in the interschool Futsal competition on Monday 24th May. The girls played at MSAC and were scheduled into the Division 1 draw. They played 6 games and had a 3-3 win, lost ratio, this meant the girls finished in 4th place.
Chloe, our goal keeper used her expert skills to repel many shots at goal by the opposition and she was well supported by Alex, Sarah, and Aker. Our forward structure worked well with Anne-Maria, Aluel, and Katie combining to score a number of goals. As the girls had to play 6 games in the day, tiredness became an issue but with the good work by Adaw, Abuil, and Ajok, the girls continued to try their best and prove that they deserve to be in division 1.
Thank you for the support of Mr Damien Marshall who helped to support the girls on the day.
Mr Mark Donahoo (Coach)

JOIN US FOR THE PUSH-UP CHALLENGE

The Push-up Challenge is an initiative which helps raise awareness and promote the importance of looking after our Mental Health.

In 2020 3,318 people lost their lives to suicide in Australia. Since then, the numbers are rapidly rising. But their memories are not lost, and their struggles not forgotten.

As of the 1st of June, the Marshall Brothers at CRC have embraced the challenge to remember their struggle, and spread awareness about the mental health conditions that take so many of our own.

We strive to complete 3,318 push ups as a CRC team, in their honor.

We would like to encourage our CRC students, staff and families to join us this June for the Push-Up Challenge.

CRICKET VICTORIA'S GIRL'S LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

On Tuesday the 18th of May, Cricket Victoria held a celebratory breakfast at Citipower, Albert Park for girls across the state who had completed the Cricket Victoria's Girl's Leadership Program. It was a great experience for all as we got to meet Cricketers Kim Garth and Sophie Day, as well as Basketballer Isobel Anstey. We also had a tour of Citipower where elite cricketers train and recover at.
I would like to congratulate Sierra Lynch, Audrey Gerada, Charlotte Gerada, and Vicky Huynh for completing Cricket Victoria's Girl's Leadership Program. The girls went through an extensive range of modules to learn about how to be the next generation of leaders. Well done!

Yr 10 student Jesse Renda is passionate about Skincare, and has decided to run his own program at the school.

In Semester 2, there will be lunchtime information sessions dedicated to learning about Skincare. The program will cover:

Session 1: Skincare Basics

Session 2: Acne + Skin Treatments

Session 3: Scarring + Pigmentation

The sessions will be once a week on a Friday at lunchtime (12:30), held in the school Auditorium. The sessions will run between 15-30 minutes.

Dates are not yet confirmed but names are being taken down for those who wish to attend the program.

There will be a guest speaker for sessions 2 & 3. Complimentary skincare product samples will also be provided to the attendees at the end of each session.

Due to the split lunchtimes, this program is only available to Year 9 and 10 students.

Please email jesser@crcstalbans.com.au if you have any questions or would like to put your name down to attend.

FROM THE WORLD OF STEM

As the news filtered through that another week of lockdown was here many of the staff reached for some of the hard stuff...coffee! After realizing that the stocks were being thoroughly thrashed, an urgent appeal was issued involving Victoria Police, CFA, and the SES. What can I say but the strains of remote teaching were well known to Victoria’s Emergency Services.
Anyway “where does STEM come into this?” I hear you cry.
Question 1 - One cup of coffee is 230 ml. If a teacher drinks 6 cups of coffee a day for the duration of this fourth lockdown, what is the total volume of coffee drunk before getting back to school?
Question 2 - If there are 10 coffee capsules per box, how many boxes need to be opened to keep a teacher-focused during lock down?
The first student to answer both questions correctly wins a super lockdown prize (well they will when the shops open). All answers to Mr Johnston please: mjohnston@crcstalbans.com.au
